Consider the Soul Trap movement in full effect. Starting in 2012 with Chicago’s MC Tree’s project Sunday School, we have been consistently graced with the chopped soul sampling production that has come to define the 30-year-old artist. Recently, he teamed up with fellow Chicagoan Chris Crack for the much talked about release, TreeSwag, which dropped earlier this month (get it here).
In the follow up to the release we get a visual for one of the stand out tracks on the tape in “Cuts”. The video, shot by 10photos, is a fairly simple affair that’s best aspect is the bars Crack drops over the Tree production. It’s an interesting pairing as Chris Crack’s penchant for fly-ness plays a nice antithesis to Tree’s understated persona.
Never one to be off the boards for long, Tree also dropped a couple loosies since last week. He appropriately dropped the mystic-trap “Look At Me” alongside the announcement of his first European tour (dates below) and followed that up with a raspy-voiced freestlye over Kanye’s “Devil In A White Dress”. Tree has been busy the past couple of years and it looks like he has no plans of slowing down in 2014.
